Mastacomys fuscus mordicus Thomas, 1922 the broad-toothed rat has been listed as an endangered species.

This species is currently known to occur across the alpine and sub-alpine regions of southeastern Australia spanning Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
