This agreement covers coastal land of the Nambucca Valley, which is leased back to the NSW Government and run through a board of management. The Nambucca Heads and Unkya Local Aboriginal Land Councils hold the lands on behalf of Aboriginal owners.
The Gaagal Wanggaan National Park is jointly managed by the Aboriginal owners and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), part of the Office of Environment and Heritage. The board of management has a majority of Aboriginal owners along with community and NPWS representation.
Located on the mid north coast of New South Wales, between Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head, the Gaagal Wanggaan National Park protects coastal lands and the adjacent Warrell Creek. The park contains significant Aboriginal cultural values including sites that show the continuous use of the area by Aboriginal people for thousands of years.
