Beowa National Park renaming celebration

On Saturday, 11 November 2023, representatives of Thaua Country Aboriginal Corporation, Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council, Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council, Twofold Aboriginal Corporation, and the Australian South Sea Islanders community joined together. The group reflected on the significant shift towards truth-telling about Australia's history.

National Parks and Wildlife is planning for new interpretive signage along the Light to Light Walk that will allow walkers the opportunity to learn about the local history, in a way that respects cultural sensitivities.

Signage designs are being developed that will be located around Boyds Tower, and feedback was received from those that participated in the renaming of Beowa National Park.

Walking track progress

Local business Creative Lines are currently working on the walking tracks to:

  • complete the 8 km section between Boyds Tower and Mowarry Point by January 2024
  • upgrade the link between Mowarry Point and Saltwater Creek to reopen in January 2024.

When the works above are complete, walkers will be able to enjoy more than 12 km of improved track along the coast through open eucalypt forest, tea tree shrublands and across creeks, beaches, and rock platforms.

Works are also underway between Pulpit Rock and Green Cape.

Track closures – you can view details of upcoming and active closures on our Alerts for NSW National Parks page.

Next stages of delivery

Construction has commenced on new camping facilities, including tent platforms and amenities, at Mowarry Point campground, followed by similar work at Hegartys Bay campground.

Interpretive and wayfinding signage is being developed in consultation with key stakeholders for the Boyds Tower precinct and the Light to Light Walk.

Work to upgrade Green Cape car park is scheduled to commence in early 2024. It is expected that the work will take 4 months to complete.

We are working with our contractor and commercial tour operators to provide visitors access to as much of the Light to Light Walk experience, where it is safe and practical to do so. This will include considering access to Green Cape cottages and Green Cape day-visitor area.

Visitors should check the National Parks and Wildlife Service website as there may be periods during work when the precinct will not be accessible.

We expect to be able to open the Light to Light track linking Boyds Tower to Green Cape in April 2024. However, if the project team experience poor weather conditions, this date could be delayed.
