Review of Environmental factors published

The approved Light to Light Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and the submissions report have now been published on our website.

Based on the feedback received during the public exhibition and targeted consultations, the following changes have been made to the project:

  • after careful consideration of the potential impacts on biodiversity, National Parks and Wildlife Service has decided not to establish strategic fire advantage zones around the huts at Mowarry Point and Hegartys Bay
  • mitigation measures will be put in place to manage the potential impacts of the project on fisheries, including targeted signage along the walk
  • a change to maintenance regime of the existing Hegartys Bay vehicle track will avoid impact on a threatened plant species.

These changes are in addition to those made in response to concerns raised during the public exhibition of the Ben Boyd National Park (now known as Beowa National Park) and Bell Bird Creek Nature Reserve Plan of Management Draft Amendment and the Draft Light to Light Walk Strategy. These changes, including the provision of low-key camping facilities at Mowarry Point and the upgrade of camping facilities at Bittangabee Bay, are outlined in the Light to Light Walk Public Exhibition Report.

Stages of delivery

Work on the Light to Light project will be undertaken in stages, with stage 1 being the construction of the walking track. The tender for the track construction has just been released and we look forward to working with a contractor who shares the vision we have for this project.
