Channel Country bioregion area

  • 30,409,437 hectares in total
  • 2,335,604 hectares in NSW

The bioregion lies in the Western Division and is traversed by the Silver City Highway, which runs through Milparinka and Tibooburra and south to Broken Hill.

The climate is extremely arid. Floods are infrequent but when they occur, major events trigger huge breeding and growth of plants and animals. The Ramsar-listed Lake Pinaroo is in this bioregion.
