Me-Mel (Goat Island)

Part of Sydney Harbour National Park, Me-Mel is listed on the State Heritage Register for its rich array of Aboriginal, historic and natural heritage values, including over 30 buildings and structures dating from the 1830s to the 1960s.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is working with the Me-Mel Transfer Committee to make recommendations to the NSW Government for the transfer of Me-Mel in Sydney Harbour to Aboriginal ownership, governance and management.

To prepare for this transfer, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is undertaking a large-scale remediation and conservation program of the island's built assets.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is committed to transparent and open communication. In these pages, you'll find the latest information about both the remediation works and the transfer project.

The island is named Goat Island and commonly referred to as Me-Mel.
