Feedback on draft master plans

Public exhibition of the Dorrigo Arc Rainforest Centre and Dorrigo Escarpment great walk draft master plans closed in early 2024, and the submissions report is now available.

This report summarises the community feedback received during public exhibition and outlines how the feedback has been considered. We appreciate your time and effort to submit comments.

The master plans may still be adjusted in response to issues raised during the exhibition, environmental and cultural assessment outcomes, and local design issues, which are in line with the adopted plan of management for the parks.

Review of environmental factors

The next opportunity to provide feedback to ensure the best outcomes for the parks, the community and the project is the public exhibition of the review of environmental factors – the environmental assessment for the activities proposed within Dorrigo and Bindarri national parks. We will notify you when these documents are available for public consultation.

Preparations underway at The Glade

The Glade picnic area is being prepared to welcome visitors during construction of the new Dorrigo Arc Rainforest Centre. New flush toilets have been installed to complement the planned temporary visitor centre building, which will later become a flexible education space for school excursions and community events.

The work has included mains water and sewer connection under Lyrebird Lane which will enhance visitor experience and improve wastewater treatment. The Glade car park, picnic area, and lookout are now open to visitors, and the construction and revegetation sites are fenced off.

Historic picnic shelter restored

The historic Never Never picnic shelter at Baliiga picnic area in Dorrigo National Park has been given a new lease on life just in time for its 50th birthday next year. The shelter was refurbished to preserve its heritage values and provide an amazing picnic location for future generations.

Contractor Osborne & Dowling Pty Ltd from Kempsey replicated the original architect award-winning design and construction with poles and shingles prepared by Dorrigo's Buchanans Landscaping and Construction.

Crystal Shower Falls walk complete

The upgrade of the Wonga Walk between The Glade and Crystal Shower Falls in Dorrigo National Park is complete. The asphalt resurfacing and widening of this 1.6-kilometre section ensures this iconic rainforest experience is now more accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities. With delightful rest nodes and 2 spectacular new viewing platforms, visitors can pause and immerse themselves in this Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage area. Thanks again to Buchanans Landscaping and Construction for a terrific effort over the last 12 months.
