The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a statutory not-for-profit body, established under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 on 25 August 2017.
The BCT delivers private land conservation programs and fulfils certain roles under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme. To find out more visit the Biodiversity Conservation Trust website.
Private Land Conservation
The NSW Government has committed more than $350 million over the next five years from 2019–20 to fund the BCT to deliver its private land conservation programs. This investment will be guided by the Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy 2018.
Existing agreements, including conservation agreements under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, trust agreements under the former Nature Conservation Trust Act 2001, and BioBanking agreements under the former Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 are now managed by the BCT.
Biodiversity Offsets Program
The BCT has 4 roles under the scheme, including helping landholders wanting to generate and sell biodiversity credits and providing an alternative pathway for developers to discharge an offset obligation.
